An Amazing Miracle Story

Hello everyone.

I was privileged to hear the story I am sharing today with my own ears. I share it with the permission of the gentleman who was blessed to have this experience.

My prayer is that this story will build your faith and touch your heart. There is nothing in any of our lives that is too small for God to notice.

A gentleman was taking a walk up a mountain with his dog. He counted his steps as he was walking up the mountain trail: 2,800 steps. On this hike, the gentleman had brought something special with him: a pocket knife that had great value to him since it had been given to him by a loved one.

The next day, the gentleman discovered that his pocket knife was missing. This was a significant disappointment to him since the pocket knife was truly special to him. I think that many of us can relate to the experience of being attached, to a greater or lesser degree, to an object that has been given to us by a person whom we love.

Two days later, the gentleman, along with his dog, returned to the mountain where he had last had the pocket knife with a vague hope that he might find it. This time, he hiked 3,000 steps instead of the 2,800 steps he had taken the time before. Along the way, he had looked all over, kicking leaves with his stick, looking for the pocket knife, with no success.

The gentleman reached the top of the mountain and enjoyed the beautiful scenery that he saw. Amid the quiet peace and grandeur up on that mountaintop (only the gentleman and his dog were there), the gentleman felt the presence of God and began to pray. He intended to ask God about the pocket knife during his prayer, but he ended up praying only a prayer of thankfulness. In his prayer, he thanked God for the wonders of creation as well as for the blessings that He had given him.

After this heartfelt season of thanksgiving, the gentleman began to make his trek back down the mountain. As he did so, he realized that he had forgotten to pray about the pocket knife. About 200 feet down the mountain, the gentleman stopped and prayed again: a different, special kind of prayer. In his prayer, he expressed that, although he thought his prayer was kind of silly, he would really like to find his pocket knife since someone special had given it to him and it therefore had a special meaning to him.

After praying this prayer, the gentleman and his dog resumed their descent down the mountain. Along the trail, he encountered a bridge with a creek under it. Since his dog enjoys swimming, the gentleman decided to take a break there and give his dog some time in the water.

For about five minutes, the gentleman stood on the bridge with his hands flat on the rail as his dog enjoyed the water. Finally, the gentleman called “let’s go!” to his dog. As the gentleman began to walk again, he noticed that, by some miracle, his pocket knife was in his hand! His pocket knife was not on the rail and he had had his hand flat on the rail of the bridge for about five minutes. Even so, when he removed his hand from the rail, the pocket knife was in his hand!

God cares about us, and there is nothing too small or too insignificant for Him to notice. I hope that this story has encouraged you, as it has me, that God is very tenderhearted and that we can open our hearts to Him as we can to a loving parent.

Blessings and courage.

I’m just a young lady who is journeying through life with Jesus. I have much to learn and unlearn and I’m so grateful to be able to be guided by God in my growing process. I desire to learn and grow forever. May I never find a complacent, stopping point! As long as I continue to humbly walk with God, I will forever be His work in progress (adapted from the "About" page on my blog learnandgrow4ever.com).
