If you’re ever looking for someone who understands everything about you and loves you intensely, look no further than Jesus.
I am touched because I have come to see that His ways of viewing every one of us are perfectly balanced with both mercy and justice.
When others around may only see our glaring faults, Jesus sees the broken places in our hearts. He can see that, as our hearts are mended by His love, we will be better able to see and acknowledge our faults and then overcome them in His strength.
He is too loving to treat faults of human frailty as human pre-meditated evil. He is too loving to mention all of our faults at once and to cause our hearts to wither from being overwhelmed, bewildered, disheartened, and discouraged. He is too loving to deny that we have faults or to soothe us into thinking that our faults are virtues.
He will never be heartless, cold, and exacting, and He will never be lax, indulgent, and given over to inconsiderate kindness. He will always be a merciful, tender-hearted, just, strong, encouraging, convicting, comforting and motivating God. He will always be the epitome of love, and He will always be the One who can make each and every one of us the ever-growing best version of ourselves.
Look at how Jesus treated the woman caught in adultery: He had already worked within her in His gentle, loving, and convicting way and she knew that she was guilty as well as for what she was guilty. Jesus did not repeat her sin, which she already knew, to her. He assured her that He did not condemn her and He told her to “go and sin no more.” John 8: 11 (KJV)
Jesus’ commands are more than commands; they are also promises. When Jesus tells any of us to do anything, He is also providing the power that is needed to do what He has commanded. He never leaves us to struggle on our own.
Look what happened when Jesus commanded a man who could not walk to walk! When Jesus commanded the man to walk, the man immediately obeyed and was given the power by Jesus to walk! (Mark 2:12 KJV) What power Jesus has! His commands are more than commands: they are also promises of His empowerment to those who will comply with His commands!
In John 5:22-27, we see that Jesus is a judge. I am grateful for the righteous human judges that exist here on Earth, and I am even more grateful for the righteous Judge we have in heaven.
In closing, I would like to share a video of a righteous human judge who beautifully exemplified a balance of mercy and justice. Mercy and justice combined are a marvelous thing.
